1. How did you get your job?
One sunny day of June 2007 I received a call from a friend telling me that there was a job opening for a new hotel in Corniche road. With hesitation and doubts in my heart I find my luck and took the risk of leaving my present job that time. Now, after taking the risk I know I make the right decision of joining the ROSEWOOD CORNICH HOTEL TEAM.

2. What do your main duties consist of?
My main duties as a female butler is consist of the following:

2.1. Welcoming my guest from the very first time they step into the doors of the hotel and welcome them by my sincere and heart warm smile. Making their first impression. This is my hotel I belong here.
2.2. But before I welcome my guest I have to make sure that her guest room is ready. Clean, good condition with zero defect & complete amenities at least 2 hours before they arrived.
2.3. As I welcome the guest upon their arrival. I will escort them directly to the guest room and do the check-in procedure right in the heart of the privacy of their room, when normally in the most of the hotel check in procedure is done at the reception. But in ROSEWOOD we do it with privacy. By these we are giving our precious guest a secure and private stay.
2.4. And then I need to do the room orientation with the guest to ensure that they will enjoy the facilities and amenities inside there room and in all corner of the hotel.
2.5. Unpack their luggage, offer restaurant booking and in room dining services, wake up calls, offer limousine service, laundry & pressing service. Escort guest whenever possible, assist them in there needs and make their stay much easier. Giving them our ultimate personalize service. In short were like servants but in a much prestigious and glamorous way.
2.6. And upon their departure I will make their check out procedures hassle free. Check out procedure can be as easy as checking in.
2.7. Pack their luggage and escort them up to the door step of the hotel, bid them farewell, safe trip wished that they enjoy their stay and hoping for their return.

3. What is your average day like?
My average day like is not so tough, not so busy but not that easy, it’s because we have to get thru even to the smallest detail of the preferences of our guest. It’s anticipating what they need and be sensitive to their feelings.

4. What are the biggest challenges you face in your job, and how do you overcome them?
One of the biggest challenges I face in my job is when my guest is pure Arabic speaking. Communication plays an important part of my job and thanks to my little Arabic speaking tongue I manage to communicate with the guest. Another challenge is when you find the guest with her swing moods but just be patient and sensitive to their feelings and everything will run smooth.

5. What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I enjoy about my job is that I meet & inter act with different kinds of people, of different nationality, language and culture. Whether they are royalties, businessman and woman, a doctor, a lawyer, a banker and even the ordinary people. It’s an everyday learning process for me which I know will help me more to become a better person and be more useful, for myself, for my family and to the society.
And another thing what I like in my job is the people around working with me. Can you just imagine how many staff we have in the hotel and what nationalities are they? This is the thing that even we are of different nationalities I still can get along with them even there is ups and down, they are fun to be with. They’re all my friends and were happy.

6. What advice would you give to someone wanting to do the same job?
First, stay humble. Be thankful for all the blessing that you have and will have.
Be understanding, open minded, willing to learn what is about your job. Be patient and kind. Willing to work much with less supervision. In order to have this kind of job and be in the industry, you should have the passion for it. When you like your job, you will enjoy your work and when you’re enjoying your work, you will love your job, and when you love jour job you have the compassion for the job. It’s very easy, relax have fun and be happy. Smile always.

7. Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Five years from now, I can see myself as a training manager and a consultant. Traveling around the world spreading and sharing my knowledge to those who are just starting in their career and have the willingness to improve their career and their lives and while enjoying the sun and the sea in one of our Rosewood Caribbean property.

About Me ....
My name is Lyn Arzadon Esguerra, a Filipina. Working as a female butler in Rosewood Corniche Jeddah, I am 31 years old and sorry to say for all those gentlemen out there, I am 11 years married to my Filipino husband and we have 3 wonderful and smart boys. Before I joined this hotel, I was a waitress in one of the resort in Abhor, Jeddah. Back in the Philippines I was a cashier in department store, a service crew in a donut shop and I also once became a Sales and Service Consultant for a company whose business is in electronic.
If I will sum up my working experiences I can say that dealing with people and interacting with them is a no-new thing for me. Just like in a computer I have to upgrade my career. I don’t want to be a forever cashier a service crew or a waitress for life. I need myself, and thanks to Rosewood CORNICHE Hotel for giving me the opportunity to have a very good career.
